Cornell Giving Day
Make Sure You Get Counted on Giving Day!
Cornell has a new tradition for focusing donations: Giving Day. Chi Phi successfully participated last year and won recognition from Cornell for our effort and success. This is important to building our base of support beyond just facilities and Sorority and Fraternity Life. SFL continues to evolve as they put in place a new Student Code of Conduct and enforcement procedures keeping everyone on their toes. We come in peace and want to help our chapter stay in good stead, as well as have our alumni be recognized as the important segment of Cornell’s Alumni that we are.
This year the Brothers have asked and we have agreed to apply the funds raised to a project of their choosing. Their choice? Curtains for the Great Room, and other common rooms as possible for privacy and thermal assistance. This past year a mis-construed impression of 10 guys watching TV in the Great Room was turned into a party under Covid restrictions. Curtains would help avoid these unfortunate misjudgements as the stain glass is not entirely opaque.
The Craigielea Educational Fund has also agreed to a donor match of the donations made by active chapter members up to a total of $10,000. I wonder if parents will be backing those pledges by the brothers. Regardless, they want to invest in the house and we support that.
It is also an important part of the Craigielea Alumni Association long term plan to encourage regular participation in giving to CEF at any level, starting as actives and continuing as part of the equation of the Brotherhood for Life.
I hope the Alumni will join in and support this effort by the XI Chapter to be counted and invest in improving Craigielea!
